2011 Pipe and Drum

PIPE AND DRUM ANNOUNCEMENT

Let us start by saying WE WILL HAVE PIPE BAND PERFORMANCES.  However, for the 2011 Glasgow Highland Games, we will not have the individual or band competitions. 

The current economy made this decision for us.  In order to host a competition that we can be proud of, it takes several thousands of dollars.  Although we have excellent financial support from local businesses, our Tourist Bureau, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, we understand that they too have been affected by the economy and have been forced to decrease or eliminate donations.  We are hopeful that the economy will turn around and we will be able to host the competition in 2012.

We deeply appreciate the understanding and support we have received from the Pipe and Drum band directors and members, individual competitors, judges and each of you.

Please come out and show your support to the Pipe Bands who will be performing for us.  The emails we received from the Band Directors in response to this announcement were understanding and encouraging so we’d love to have a large crowd to cheer them onto the field.

We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our Pipe and Drum Event Director, Rick McKenzie, his assistant John Scott and the countless volunteers who helped make our competition an event we’ve been proud to host.
